Last week when I collected my recent Soul Collage exhibition, the feedback I received was that my simpler ones, such as 'Prosper', were more popular.
Although I don't create Art for commercial reasons, it did make me think about why I find minimalism so difficult. I think it's because I often fill my Art like I fill my Life.
So, I'm challenging myself to simplify ... Not to make Art that others approve of, but because I really want to balance more space in my Life.
I found this leaf on the ground during a scooter ride with my son on the weekend. Something about it really resonated with me. I liked the spaces between.
So here is a new collage I'm working on with blank space in mind. I tried using white to minimise, but there's still a fair bit going on. But there's no use fighting the flow. This is what's coming out of me right now. I allow it to be.
Although there were lots of elements I really loved in this piece, my intention was to reduce clutter. I adored the growth at the bottom, and the dangling leaves reminded me of the holey leaf I found on the ground.
So I let go of everything else. Now I see a beautiful cave emerging ...
Who lives in this cave? What will emerge from it? Perhaps it's just a place to contemplate. I'm going camping for a few days tomorrow ... to simply be amongst nature with my family. I'm excited to see where this leads my work ... and Life.
